Animals, animals everywhere!

A few weeks ago our preschool class had a focus on animals. The week wax filled with animal snacks, donations made to the local humane society, a visit from the local humane society & a field trip to Pet World. The week was a blast & the field trip was so much fun. Little sister got to join in on the fun , so she was happy about that.

You've got mail

We love to go get the mail with mom and dad.

And sometimes it takes us longer than usual because...

We like to take turns shutting each other in the mailbox.

I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to be able to keep fitting in the mailbox. It's getting pretty tight.

Next, it's Reesing's turn...and I know it looks like I'm leaning into the mailbox.  I may or may not be holding the door shut resisting any attempt from Reesing to get out. She falls for it every time.

But she's always a good sport about it because she doesn't cry for too long.

I bet you didn't realize how much fun a couple of kids good have simply getting the mail.

She's got much more clearance and probably a lot more time to keep squeezing into the mailbox.

Batter Up!

It's spring time & we're ready for some baseball. Dad's been helping us sharpen on our skills.

Dad helping Reesing with her grip on the bat.

I share my helmet with Reesing and because she has such a big head, it fits her pretty good.

Ear to ear smiles even before she takes a swing.

Dad says I've got a good swing and when I get ahold of one...you'd better watch out.  I can't wait until I can play on a team.  Until then, I'm just going to keep practicing.

A local favorite

In our hometown of Lawrence there is a wonderful thing called Mass St.  It's the street that run through downtown Lawrence and among both sides of the sidewalk there are all kinds of hidden gems, local favorites and good times.  The blocks are filled with fun boutiques, shops, restaurants and bars.  Dad took me to get a haircut from my cousin Taylor today (Reesing got her hair cut yesterday from Taylor) and after the haircut we went to lunch at Jefferson's on Mass Street.  One of the cool staples of Jefferson's is that the walls are covered in dollar bills that have been autographed, decorated, scribbled and written on in every form possible.  Today Reesing and I put our mark on Jefferson's.  We each got a dollar bill to create a masterpiece on and hang up on the wall.  It's kinda like a dog peeing on their territory...we marked our spot and were very excited to do so.

Cheesin' and adding our dollar to the wall.

And an added bonus?  The waitress loved us so much she brought out some stuffed animals to give us.  Thanks Dad for helping us make memories and letting us leave our mark in downtown Lawrence.  And thanks to the nice waitress at Jefferson's for the cool stuffed animal friends.

It's racing day..it's racing day!

Yesterday was the first day of my racing career.  My dad and I have been out practicing a lot this spring and I've been in my race car a lot, but yesterday was my first official race.  Despite the mind numbing wind...it was a great day had by all.

Here's the car that so many people have helped to create.  And my dad spends a great amount of time working on this car.

First few laps and Mom was a nervous wreck, but oh so excited to see me race!

And while I raced my sister did her own stunts, such as this height defying balancing act.

She was so proud of herself to have made it the whole way.

Shortly after my race, my cousin Calvin raced...

against my cousin Colton.

It's definitely a family thing.  Three cousins racing. One cousin working as flag man. One Grandpa, one Uncle and two cousins came to watch. One Aunt working as race director.  Lots of Uncles chatting, cursing and working on cars. One sibling and one cousin running around the track like crazy people.  I think it's safe to say that the Urish/Berger clan did represent well at the track!

And more stunts from Reesing...walking delicately over the grate in the ground...as if there was a pond of hungry sharks swimming around below her.  It's the little things though b/c her face sure did light up once she made her way across it safely.

Time for the feature race...Dad getting me secured in the car.

Pep talk before taking to the track for the feature race.

Getting some more good luck mojo from Lindsey and Reesing.

Lined up and ready to go

In the feature race I fought hard.  Passed lots of cars and kept it strong, but let a car get past me towards the end to squeak me outta 3rd place and into 4th place out of 6 cars. Dad was proud and it's a good sign of what's to come this season.

Dad giving kudos for a good race.

Reesing was right there to say "good job."

Here's a close up of my awesome helmet that my cousin Chris helped me out with.  Thanks Chris!

Here's a picture of the birthday buddies...cousin Colton and Reesing.  Everytime Colton was around Reesing he would ask her if he could hold her.  Everytime she would say yes and they would just hug on each other.

And again....I think Colton might need a baby sister.  I think he would take great care of a baby sister.  Or...he can just borrow mine whenever he would like.  I definitely don't mind.

After my feature race was Colton and Calvin's feature race.  Calvin went crash, boom, bang and actually flipped his car.  Calvin was ok, as good as he can be for flipping a race car, and the car was a little bent up, but for the most part both were still in one piece.  Colton went on to win the checkered flag for his feature race. Maybe Reesing's your good luck charm.  Great job Colton and Calvin! Great race!

A good day was had by all, even the cheerleader who spent most of the day doing stunts and carrying around the pictured Pringles can.

And at the end of the day...I walked away with a medal!
