Start your engines...er...start pedaling!

What started out as a very laid back Sunday turned into a fun-filled day. This past weekend the Tour of Lawrence was taking place.  Sunday's course happened to be downtown Lawrence where they blocked off several blocks of street for the races.  Our dentist office, Growing Smiles, sponsored a kid's bike race on Sunday where there were varying distances for the different age groups.  So, our family of four made our way downtown for some family fun.

When we got downtown we immediately found the kid's zone.  After registering for the bike race we made our way to the kid's zone and had some pre-race fun.

Mind you, Reesing is only two, but she was running circles around this obstacle course.  Every parent watching just kept asking my parents if she was ok to go by herself.   Uh...yeah...that's not a problem for that little girl.  She got faster and faster each lap.

Riding on the whirly go around.

Reesing loved the obstacle course, but I loved the huge shark slide. Reesing went down the slide once, but didn't brave it more than that.  I could've kept going down and down again. It was a long climb to the top, but well worth the slide down.

Then we headed up to the start/finish and watched one of the races.

We got our numbers on and were ready.

Then it was some organized chaos involving parents, children, bikes, tricycles and lots of heat while we all tried to get lined up and wait for instructions.  As you can tell by the look on Reesing's face...it was hot!

Here's a picture of Dad and I waiting to get lined up.  From the back of Dad's shirt you can tell how hot it was.

Reesing raced 1/2 block and I raced the full block. Here is Reesing lined up and ready to go.

Pedal Reesing...pedal Reesing...Go, Go, Go!  She did a good job, and somewhat finished the 1/2 block race, with a little help from Mom.  About 1/2 way down the 1/2 block race Reesing was having so much fun waving and saying hello to everyone cheering her on that it kinda slowed her game down, but she finished the race and tried hard so we were all proud of her.  She was definitely on a Sunday stroll.

Reesing receiving her medal after the race.

Mom had barely pulled Reesing off the course when I came barreling down the street, finishing within the top 5.   I did my best and had a great time at the race.

Here I am after having just received my medal.

Great race for the both of us and we're looking forward to next year already!

And look at the free stuff we scored.
